Real builds, real challenges, and the solutions we crafted along the way. Here's an honest look at what we've been working on lately.
Location: West Vancouver, BC
Completed: September 2023
This one pushed us in all the right ways. Clients wanted something that felt connected to the ocean views without looking like every other glass box on the coast. We angled the main living spaces to capture sunset views, used local cedar that'll age beautifully, and worked through about a dozen iterations on the roofline before landing on something that felt right.

Old warehouse spaces can be tricky. You've got exposed brick that everyone wants to keep, but terrible acoustics and zero insulation. We preserved the industrial character while sneaking in modern comfort - heated concrete floors, soundproofing between units, and huge windows that actually open (revolutionary, I know). The challenge was keeping costs reasonable while meeting current building codes that weren't exactly written with 1920s buildings in mind.
"They got what we were going for immediately. The space feels authentic, not like some staged industrial wannabe."

Building in the mountains isn't for the faint of heart. Snow loads, wildlife considerations, and getting materials up steep roads in winter - yeah, it was an adventure. The clients wanted a four-season retreat that didn't scream "ski chalet." We went with clean lines, lots of glass facing south for passive solar gain, and a green roof that helps with insulation and blends into the landscape.

Design to Completion
Geothermal heating system that cut energy costs by about 60%
Rainwater collection for landscaping use
Locally-sourced timber and stone materials
"We were worried about it feeling too modern and cold, but they nailed the balance. It's cozy when we want it to be, but the architecture doesn't compete with the mountain views."

Tech companies all say they want "collaborative spaces," but what does that actually mean? For this project, we focused on flexibility - movable walls, varied ceiling heights to define zones without closing things off, and enough power/data drops that they won't be limited by infrastructure as they grow. Also convinced them to ditch the ping-pong table nobody uses and put in actual breakout rooms with good acoustics.
"Finally, an architect who didn't just show us pictures of Silicon Valley offices. They actually listened to how our team works."
From concept to completion - here's how this project came together
Clients came to us with a tear-down situation. The existing house was blocking all the good views, and the layout made zero sense. Started with site analysis - where does the sun move, where are the views, what's the prevailing wind direction. Sketched probably 30 different massing studies before we found the right approach.
The lot slopes pretty steeply toward the water, so foundation work was complex and expensive. Had to work closely with structural engineers to cantilever the main living space out over the slope - gives you the feeling of floating above the landscape. Also dealt with pretty strict heritage area guidelines that limited height and setbacks.
Ended up with a split-level design that works with the topography instead of fighting it. Cedar cladding that references West Coast architecture without being too literal about it. Floor-to-ceiling glass on the view side, more solid and protective on the street side. Clients are thrilled, and honestly, so are we.
Original 1970s structure with dated layout and poor orientation
Reimagined design maximizing views and natural light
"We interviewed four firms before choosing Kyron. What set them apart was their willingness to really listen. They didn't try to impose some signature style on us. Instead, they asked tons of questions about how we actually live - where we have coffee in the morning, how we entertain, even where our dog likes to hang out. The result is a house that feels like it was made specifically for us, because it was. Worth every penny and every grey hair during construction."

Four-unit development that actually fits into the neighborhood character. Took some convincing at the city level, but we got there.
